The Team

Kira Tilcock

Computer Science

I am currently a 2nd year Computer Science student studying at the University of Victoria. In school I am interested in software programming and learning new programming languages. Outside of school I am interested in learning about new technology and ways they can improve my day to day life.

For our final project we decided to make an app that would firstly be functional and secondly be educational. Tid-bit is a simple app that is created for anyone to use. With its simplistic - yet efficient layout it generates "Tid-bit" facts that will broaden anyones general knowledge.

By creating this app, I learned a lot about how JavaScript works, and how many programs there are for anyone to make a website or app. With a little imagination and skill any idea is possible!

Hailey O'Handley

History of Arts

I am currently a second year History of Arts student enrolled at the University of Victoria. I am generally focused on graphic design and painting mediums, although I am open to some sculpture. I hope to pursue a career in the arts as a makeup artist or possibly even doing graphics for movie sets in Hollywood!

For our project we created a mobile app that provides the users with a random selection of facts from different genres. Having something of this sort gives the audience good conversation topics to discuss with their peers. I feel having access to something constantly on your mobile device allows for easy capability, and the fact that it is a simple layout makes it simple to operate for people with little or no understanding of technology. Therefore, resulting in a broader range of users. It is fun and simple, yet extremely educational for people of all ages and cultures!

Benjamin Philip George

Political Science and Economics, Malaysia

I am currently a fourth year Political Science and Economics student from Malaysia at the University of Victoria. This is my first ever computer science course, and it has been quite an experience so far! I decide to take CSC 130 as an initiative to begin learning about coding, web applications/design, and app creation. So far I've barely scratched the surface of what I would like to learn, but this class has surely been a stepping stone in my digital learning experience.

Our idea for Tidbit came to us because we wanted an application that could function without much prior computer coding knowledge. In accordance with the time, we believed that the tap-to-touch interfere of Tidbit will allow users to utilize our app without much effort. We wanted to incorporate a learning experience that embodies a simple design to ensure a holistic but minimalistic user experience.

Ivor Kuzmick

Computer Sciecne

I am a second year computer science major currently enrolled at the University of Victoria. I enjoy programming and graphic design, and this second project has been a great marriage of the two. TidBit's simple, minimalistic design suits it perfectly, as we did not want our users to be hung up with clunky controls and interfaces.

Our goal for TidBit was to make a simple easy to use application that would open the eyes of our users by exposing them to interesting facts about the world that they might otherwise never have known. Our application is simple, educational, and most importantly fun!
