TidBit is a fun little app designed to expand our users horizons fact by bite-sized fact. Upon loading up the app the user is presented with 9 icons, tapping on one of the icons generates a random fact.

TidBit is designed to improve our users general knowledge everyday with interesting facts, stories and ideas that will hopefully invite them to think and learn about the world around them that they might have otherwise glossed over.

The app itself is elegantly designed; minimalistic prompts and clean, clear layout all work together to guide the users eye. Simple touch functionality further adds to the apps easy to use design.

The random facts will be updated weekly ensuring the TidBit will be as addictive as it is innovative

By clicking on the icon of choice, a random fact will appear. With several diffrent facts for each icon there is much to learn!

A random fun fact app designed to be informationally fun. Improve your general knowledge everyday with interesting facts, stories, ideas, and things, which make you think about and learn things you may not know about the world around you. Tidbit will allow the users to generate content about different topics and facts that will be updated weekly. We believe the apps tap-feature and easy functionality will benefit users because the simplistic design does not require much effort from the intended users. The addictiveness of the application comes from the curiosity of users, which is derived from the generated content (i.e. interesting random facts).

User Walkthrough

Why Tidbit?

As a group, we decide to create Tidbit, because it would allow to showcase our ability in coding a functional app that would not require us to ‘slam our heads against the wall’. Being that for most of our group, this is our first computer science class, we are pleased with the outcome of the project thus far but seek to further improve it in as we update the system.

Home Page:

The TidBit App is designed to be simple and easy to use. The essence of the application is for users to commune together to share knowledge about the world around them. Upon opening the application, you will be directed to the home screen, which is the location of the featured categories for the week. In the home page, you will be able to click one of nine topics and generate randomized admin/user-content related to the specific category. Tidbit will allow the user-generated content about various topics and facts to be uploaded and the best ones will be highlighted on our main page weekly. Tidbits simplistic design features a minimalist view that masks a moderately complex system of implementation. We sought to enhance the user-friendliness aspect of our app by implementing a tap-feature that will benefit users because it requires limited effort and concentration from the intended user, this way the app becomes easily accessible and does not red herringly eat away at your time.  The addictiveness of the application comes from the curiosity of the user to learn new things about the world, which is derived from the generated content, or fun facts.

Settings Page:

The setting page is where the user will be allowed to change their language by which they see the app. As of now, the only languages available are English and Spanish, but more languages will be incorporated to absorb the needs those with different language requirements.

Current Functionality

The current functionality of the app is limited, but not only to, the language changing ability. Since the app requires user-generated content to be moderated and facilitate, the initial design will include facts about 9 topics we’ve chosen to represent Tidbit’s initial launch. The design and randomization functionality of the app is being developed, as we are new-learner of Coding. Our hope is to incorporate a back-end server to store and later comb-through on-demand for the information required.

By clicking on one of the nine icons, user will be able to generate a random fact on the topic that have been personally inputted into the back-end of the app; and with several different facts for each icon available, there is so much general knowledge to learn!

A guide for Future Implementation

To upload content, users will be required to sign-up with Tidbit or through their desired social media network, with the option of remaining anonymous even after. A user generated content will then be directed towards the trending page. The trending page will feature all of the user-generated content available for peer-review by means of voting. In the trending page, the admin reserves the right to remove or relocate content to more suitable areas, based on user-generated reports. Users that upload or moderate content will be given points that will be accumulated on their Tidbit player account.

At the end of the week, the admin will update the featured content page (i.e. home page) to showcase the top voted categories and the top voted content in those categories. Each click of an icon will bring you to a pop-up generated content, which will incorporate a definition of the subject, as defined by users in the trending page, but will also include space to advertise more comprehensive content about the given topic, statement, or idea. The advertised-comprehensive-content will allows the users that seek a more in-depth knowledge about a particular subject to continue their research with ease.

The Tidbit game will be a tool for users to test their new-founded general knowledge against their globalized peers. For every question answered correctly, players will be rewarded with points, the points accumulated will that promote players rankings and gives them medals to showcase to their peers. In the future, evaluated points can be traded as a charitable donation to the Tidbit’s charity fund that will be paid out to a different charitable organizations, monthly.
